We begin our tour with the pick up at your hotel in Fátima at 9:30 a.m.
Stop 1
Our first stop is the Batalha Monastery - Built in the 14th century and dedicated to Holy Mary by king João I in gratitude for his victory over the Castillian troops in the Battle of Aljubarrota, this late gothic masterpiece was classified an World Heritage Site in 1983 by Unesco.
Stop 2
Alcobaça Monastery - Our last stop is the Alcobaça Monastery, it was built in the gothic, manueline and barroque architectural styles and belonged to the order of Cister. In the side wings of the main church we will encounter the magnificent tombs of King Pedro I and his lover and queen Inês de Castro. These tombs are unique examples of the gothic sculpture in Portugal.
And to finish our visit to Alcobaça there is nothing better than taste the best pastel de nata in Portugal made by the award winning Alcoa pastry shop.
Stop 3
Nazaré Sanctuary - We go to Nazaré next where the legend says that a knight named Fuas Roupinho was saved from certain death by Virgin Mary. The knight was chasing a deer in the fog and got lost near the edge of a cliff. He begged mercy to the Virgin and miraculously his horse stoped with its front legs mid air. A chapel was built in the place as a remind of the phenomenon. Around 12:30 we will descend to the city to have lunch.
Stop 4
Our last stop is Óbidos - Óbidos is a lovely medieval town with old and picturesque corners ready to be discovered. Here we can visit the castle, walk on the defensive walls and enjoy the famous ginjinha liquor.
